the interview
The interview took place on thursday the 5th of october 2000 between 21h and 23h in a chinese restaurant in Paris. Were present this evening : Christophe Monier (Impulsion, The Micronauts), Pascal R (Impulsion), a special guest Sylvain Legrand (Hedonizm) and myself (Steve Lhomme). We then ended up at the Gibus (Paris Xe) for the 'My House!' party were Pascal mixed.
projects
The Micronauts are currently preparing an album. They hope to have it finished for the end of the year to release it in the first half of 2001. This album will mostly include new tracks, and will feature a new style called (by Christophe) the 'two tech' : a 4-time rythm where each beats is divided in 6 parts; a mix of R&B and 2-step with a house tempo... Only one track called 'Love' is currently finished and they're working hard to finish the other ones.
Pascal R is working on a new 2-track 10" for Wall Of Sound. This single will be less agressive than the previous one. He's also working on harder tracks for Carl Clarke's label 'Headstart'. Meanwhile, Pascal is looking for DJ booking agencies all over the world to play his tech-house/big-beat/etc sets.

album
The choice of the LP format is mostly due to sexual commodities. It's actually more practical to have sex without having to change the record every 5 minutes. Moreover the CD format allow ones to repeat a LP infinitely ! But Christophe admits that he never listens to his records at home (he knows them too much). So it's mostly a gift for other people ;)
motivations
Their motivations to make music are some of the most simple. For Christophe it's a vital need. Since he was a young child he wanted to make music. For Pascal it would rather be the appeal of drugs, money and sex ;) For him it was either making music or becoming a night watchman...
innovation
Pascal is not very concerned in making innovative music. He just tries to make the music he likes, being innovative or not. For Christophe it's a pure personnal pride, just to be happy with what he creates.
french scene
Despite the fact that they are french, Impulsion or The Micronauts mostly have success and are famous abroad. But they still feel close to some people on the french scene :
  • Christophe : Mirwais, Miss Kittin, The Hacker, Tampopo, David Carretta, Sex Toy, Micropoint, M Oizo, Laurent Brondel (vie à NYC), Arnaud Rebotini, Alan Braxe, Bosco, Erik Rug, Black Strobe, Jesse & Crabbe, Ark, Pussy Killers
  • Pascal : John Thomas, the Oxia label, Jack De Marseille as well as Laure Sinclaire
french public
It seems that they do have success in France with The Micronauts or Impulsion. They have sold quite a bit of their records there.
under the influence
Their process of making music always have an experimentation phase in which they use drugs. It's true for Pascal and Christophe (and probably for George too). The particular drug depends on the feeling they want to give to the music. Depending on the track, the recipe may vary. There are generaly many steps/phases of 'clear' preparation or analysis of what was created being 'high'.
The Micronauts official website
Virgin UK is on charge of the Micronauts official website (http://www.micronauts.co.uk/) but it won't come out before the album is released. A previous version was already done when 'Bleep to bleep' was released but The Micronauts didn't think it was good enough. They would like it to be technically as good as their music is. They would also like to get implied in it, but it won't come out before the album is finished.
creamfields
